1888 ORIGINAL | THE LEGACY

The “1888” establishment in Vasilika village on the island of Lesvos was a traditional Greek bar-restaurant, also known as a “kafenio”.

It was renowned for its exceptional culinary offerings, which consisted mainly of mezedes (small portions) that were served to accompany patrons’ drinks. The menu changed with the seasons and depended on the availability of locally-sourced, high-quality natural ingredients. These ingredients were carefully selected based on their aroma, colour, texture, and ripeness, often procured directly from nearby farms.

The techniques and knowledge behind the food selection and preparation have been passed down through the generations, leading to the revival of the legendary “1888 meze-bar” restaurants in Athens and on the island of Santorini.
